Review: Maybelline Color Sensational Matte in Rich Ruby

Hello once again Lippie Lovers! Time for another Drug Store Lipstick Review! This time we have...

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte in 691 Rich Ruby.

The Breakdown:

Cost: $7.50
Contains: 0.15 Ounces
Scent: Play-Doh (eww)
Available: Online and at Most Drug Stores.

Part One: Packaging

The packaging actually pretty decent. The actual lipstick tube is a sleek and thin silver twist up bullet, and the cover is a dark purple transparent square case. Each of their lines have a different color lid so if you know what formula you like it's easy to go right to them, so that is helpful. The lipstick does somehow seem to get messy though so I will give the packaging a 4 out of 5.

Part Two: Color

So first off, the color in the tube is beautiful. The color on my lips is beautiful. They just aren't exactly the same. The color in the tube is a much darker red than how it pulls on my lips. The color does glide on very opaque and you don't need much to get a full color pay off. Color gets a 5 out of 5.

Color at time of application.

Part Three: Formula

This is where things fall apart. The formula actually reminds me a lot of the M.A.C. Matte lipstick that I reviewed before. It was so think and dry when it went on to my lips that within just an hour or two it begins to look gross and chunky, and there is no touching up and applying more on top. No, then the chunks just become more exaggerated and it feels even more thick and patchy. You have to completely take off what you have and start over. One way to wear this to make it a little better is to apply some balm underneath before you apply, and while you do lose some of the deepness of the color, it's the only way I can wear it. Also, just to mention the smell of these are pretty off putting, it smells exactly like play-doh. Formula gets a 1 out of 5.

Lipstick after about three hours.

Final Verdict:

Unless you want to work hard to make this lipstick last, I would pass and just go for a better formula.

2 Out of 5 Lippies.
