Review: Nyx Liquid Suede Lipstick in Pink Lush

Hello Lippie Lovers! I am reviewing my lipstick that I received in my March 2016 ipsy bag! It is a brand that I really love, Nyx, and it's a product that I have almost purchased a hundred times and I'm excited that I finally got to try it out!!!

The Breakdown:

Price: $7.00
Contains: 0.13 Ounces
Scent: None
Available: Online and at most Drugstores

Part One: Packaging

The packaging is cute, but it can be deceiving. It is not a clear tube where the color shines through, it is a colored tube that "matches" the lipstick color. Mine didn't match 100%, but the lip color was actually more neon and bright than it would seem in the tube. It has that flat paddle applicator that I have said time and time again that I don't care for, but I think it's starting to grown on me... A little. I'll give packaging 4 out of 5.

Part Two: Color

Ok, this is the most neon ass lipstick I have EVER put on my lips... And I think I kind of like it! I was even asked if I was wearing neon lipstick all day! The Nyx website describes it as Hot Pink. I can't say that's a lie because whoa. I don't know how they manage to pack such a pigmented bright neon color that had no streakiness when applied in a $7 tube. I just don't get it! 5 out of 5 for color.

Part Three: Formula

The reason I put this product back and didn't buy it so many times, was that I had heard bad reviews on it in the YouTube community. At the time, they would say, "It transferred" or "It never dried to a complete Matte finish" and I was like, "Oh no, I don't want that". Until I tried the Lip Lingerie, which according to them is perfectly what they wanted and I realized that I may have a different opinion.

I loved this lipstick. It stayed so comfortable on the lips and didn't emphasize my lip lines or bleed, or anything crazy. It stayed very vibrant all day. The picture I will put below was how my lips looks after 9 hours, breakfast, and lunch. For lunch I had a sub sandwich. Yes, mouth on Sandwich. When I went to take it off that night, it actually stained my lips a very pretty color, but as I was beat and ready for bed, I didn't get a picture. I think this lipstick has been bumped up to my second favorite liquid lipstick formula (Sephora will always be my OG) and they have some very pretty colors that I want to get now. Formula gets a 5 out of 5.

Final Verdict:

I don't think I need to say much more. These are affordable, easy to get your hands on, and extremely long wearing and comfortable. They have 12 different shades and I want at least 8 of them now (some are a little to crazy, even for me).

I mean Look at this colors!

12 shades available in the range.

Review: Nyx Butter Lipstick in Big Cherry

Hello Lippie Lovers!

I have a review today on Nyx's line of Butter Lipsticks. The color I will be reviewing is Big Cherry. I purchased three colors quite a while ago, but didn't really wear them much as I was too in love with their Matte range of lipsticks at the time.

But, my knowledge of what I like in a lipstick has grown, and my tastes matured so I though I would give them another shot. Also, please note that the names of the lipstick colors have changed, but I will give details to that below.

The Breakdown:

Price: $6.00
Contains: 0.16 Ounces
Scent: None
Available: Online and at most drugstores

Part One: Packaging

The packaging for the Butter Lipsticks is similar to their other lipstick formulas. The packaging is a bit cheap, and I wish the tube itself was black with the color peeking through the middle, more like the Matte lipstick range, but it isn't the worst drugstore packaging I've seen. I'll give it a 3 out of 5.

Part Two: Color

I have never tried any of the more nude shades in this range (As you know, I'm not much of a nude lipstick wearer) but the three colors I have (details will be below) are all very pigmented and beautiful with just one swipe. The colors in this line I think are great. They have an outrageous 33 colors! I mean come on, that's crazy! 5 out of 5 for color.

Part Three Formula:

These are described as a Satin formula. I completely agree with that if you have never tried the Mac version of Satin. Mac's finishes are not the same as any other lipsticks I have tried, and it the same with this one. This is much more creamy and hydrating than the Mac Satin Lippies. When these are on my lips it kind of feels like I'm wearing an extra creamy lip balm rather than a lipstick. Wear time is not the greatest, but it's not bad for a creamy lipstick. I felt the need to re-apply after about 2 hours and having a cup of coffee. Now, I still had quite a bit of the color, but I had lost that juicy look that fresh application gives. I probably could have easily gone another hour or two and been fine, but I re-applied. These are also obviously going to transfer, and you might want to refrain from a make-out session in these as the bright bold color does stain, and you don't want your significant other's poor face to be all stained. I'm surprised at home much I actually enjoyed this lipstick though so I'll give the formula a 4 out of 5. I just wished it would have lasted a little bit longer.

Lipstick after 2 Hours of wear and a Cup Of Coffee
Final Verdict:

These are a great lipstick for people who don't like the drying formula of Matte lipsticks. They aren't overly glossy though, they just give a nice plump juicy effect that is quite pleasing.

4 out of 5 Lippies.

Now that we have the review out of the way, I will talk about the name changes. So the lipsticks were all named after candy: Razzle, Taffy, Hubba Bubba, etc. and I'm guessing that became an issue because they changed all of the names. So while looking for more info on the lipstick I had I was worried at first that they had discontinued it, but alas it is now called Fire Brick. I will put a photo below of all of the old names and what their new names are in case anyone out there has previously purchased any of them and need to re-stock or whatnot. The three colors I own all have the old names, and they are: Big Cherry, Razzle, and Licorice. Any colors not listed here are new colors that were not in the previous named lined.

Review: Nyx Lingerie Liquid Lipstick in Exotic

Hello again Lippie Lovers, today I have an item that I was so excited to get my hands on when I got the notification that it was coming out. It is the new Liquid Lipstick from Nyx called the Lip Lingerie.

The Breakdown:

Price: $7.00
Contains: 0.13 Ounces
Scent: Slight Chemical Smell
Available: Online, Ulta, and at most drugstores.

Part One: Packaging

Nyx did a great job on the packaging in my opinion, especially for the price range. It's sleek and different than most of their other packaging. But while I like the outside packaging, I don't much care for the applicator. It has that flat paddle look that I just don't care for, but it works. 4 out of 5 for packaging.

Part Two: Color

So this line of lipsticks are called Lingerie because they are nude colors. Now, most companies do nude colors as the color of a girl like me's pasty white skin. I love the fact that they have darker colors that are not only great for my dark skinned gals out there that want a nude color too, but even for girls like me that just don't care for completely nude lips. With that said, most of the colors are warmer toned and it was hard finding a color that would go with my cool complexion, and I'm still not sure I picked one that is great on me, but it's what I got. 4 out of 5 for color.

Color at time of Application
Part Three: Formula

So this one is hard to judge. Does it feel comfortable on the lips? Yes. Does it dry down quickly to a Matte texture? Yes. Is it long lasting? Yes and No. Now if I compare it to most other drugstore "matte" liquid lipsticks, it hit it out of the park. But, If I just judge it completely as it is, I don't 100% care for it. After eating it wore off very patchy and weird, and that was surprising because after I put it on, it had NO transfer. But somehow it just looked odd. I also don't think it really layered well, as it had that gross thick texture that most liquid lipstick have if you try to re-apply. I'll give the formula a 3 out of 5. Not bad, but not my favorite by far.

Not looking so great after eating.
Final Verdict:

If this was just against other drugstore brands, it would probably get a 4 out of 5, but as it wore ugly and I had to completely take it off after eating and reapply, and there are other affordable options out there, I'll give it...

3 out of 5 Lippies.

Review: Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo

Hello once again Lippie Lovers. I have another review for you today, and I wanted to just give a quick update. I am going to put a quick survey below and see what other kind of posts you wanted to see from me. I was thinking of either reviewing various lip scrubs and lip conditioners, or maybe doing a how to DIY lip scrubs, or even showing my lip treatment routine. Let me know what you want to see below! Until then, let's get back to the review!!

Today I am reviewing Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in the color 10 - Monte Carlo

The Breakdown:

Cost: $6
Contains: 0.27 Ounces
Scent: Cake Batter
Available: Online and at most drugstores

Part One: Packaging

The packaging is cute, actually looks just as good if not better than some more expensive liquid lipsticks. The tube is clear (with black writing) to show the color through and the applicator tip is a matte finish, which is always a nice feel. For a $6 lipstick Nyx really hit it out of the park on packaging. 5 out of 5.

Part Two: Color

The color I purchased is Monte Carlo, Nyx describes it as a Deep Cranberry Red. I would somewhat agree with that, as it looks more blue based red than cranberry to me, but that could just be on my cool-toned skin. However, it needs to be noted that to get the full opacity of the color you do need two coats, and the color at the time of application is not nearly as dark as it becomes later (more on that in the formula section). Either way, red lipsticks are my favorite to wear, and this is simply a gorgeous red that I think would look good on everybody. 5 out of 5 for color.

Lipstick color at time of application (2 coats)

Part Three: Formula

So before I talk about what I thought of the formula, let's talk about what Nyx claims. So never do they claim that this is a "Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick" not once do they call it that. They say it's simply a "Lip Cream that delivers a burst of color and sets to a soft matte finish". In that regard I think this is a great lipstick. Though they don't claim to be long lasting, they actually in my opinion last longer than some that do claim to last all day. Now, one thing I don't care for is that these take a long time to fully set down. I mean like an hour long. Once they do set, they are very comfortable and light feeling, but it is hard not to use your lips in any way for that long (like drinking a coffee you dirty girl), and after that hour the color oxidizes and becomes darker than initial application. Another note of interest is that they don't layer well. You can layer them but some of the comfortable feeling does go away and they feel too think after you layer later in the day (it is completely fine during the application process). So I think I will give formula a 4 out of 5.

Color after 1 hour. Darker, but still not as dark as the tube.

Final Verdict:

Simply put, I enjoy these lippies. They are affordable, comfortable, and pack a beautiful punch of color.

4 out of 5 Lippies.

Review and Swatches: Nyx Matte Lipsticks

Hello again Lippie Lovers. I have another Nyx product for you today. This time I decided to review and swatch all of the lipsticks I own from the Matte line.

The Breakdown:

Price: $5.99
Contains: 0.16 Ounces
Smell: None
Available: Online and at most Drugstores

Part One: Packaging

Okay. Nyx Packaging. Same Thing Different Date. 4 out of 5.

Part Two: Color

This is where I think Nyx really shines. They have a whooping 45 shades in this line. That is crazy! If you can't find a color you love, you don't need to be wearing lipstick! But, I will say that my two favorite colors out of the ones that I own are Shocking Pink, and Bloody Mary. There are a couple of colors that I used to own that won't be on this list of my colors below, because I did not care for them and gave them to friends and family. Colors are amazing and pigmented and just awesome. These are probably my favorite lipsticks to wear besides my Wet N Wild ones. Color gets 5 out of 5.

Colors I own:

  1. Bloody Mary: "Blue-Toned Cranberry Red"
  2. Whipped Caviar: "Muted Plum"
  3. Natural: "Mauve"
  4. Shocking Pink: "Blue-Toned Hot Pink"
  5. Couture: "Light Pink"
  6. Alabama: "Brick Red"
  7. Audrey: "Mid-Toned Blue Pink" (not pictured)
  8. Pure Red: "Bright Red-Orange"
Shocking Pink

Alabama

Pure Red

Couture

Whipped Caviar

Natural

Bloody Mary

From L to R: Bloody Mary, Natural, Whipped Caviar, Couture, Pure Red, Alabama, and Shocking Pink

Part Three: Formula

The formula on these are not just Matte. I've noticed that some of the darker colors feel more Demi-Matte while the lighter colors have a drier Matte consistency. The darker colors also have much better staying power, but this is with any lipstick I have ever tried, which is why I haven't always gone for the whole "Nude" lipstick look. For example, the only color in the range that I own that would actually be considered nude just does not look great on me. All of the other colors I think I can fairly pull off that I have, but not the nude. Either way, these lipsticks are not transfer proof by any means, but they do have a matte or demi-matte finish and last on me through my long 12 hour days. The formula gets a 5 out of 5, but I also recommend the darker colors.

Final Verdict:

Obviously I love this lipstick if I own so many shades of them, and plan on buying more shades, especially some of the ones that they have recently released. If you are on a budget but want a great long lasting lipstick that packs a great color punch, these are the ones for you.

5 out of 5 Lippies.

Review and Swatches: Nyx Wicked Lippies

Hello Lippie Lovers,

Today I was feeling bold and decided to wear my Nyx Wicked Lippies. Instead of reviewing just 1 color, as I usually do, I decided to go ahead and swatch the 3 colors that I currently have out of the line. I figured I would shake it up a bit and see how it goes.

The Breakdown:

Cost: $6.00
Contains: 0.16 Ounces
Smell: Very slight "lipstick" smell
Available: Online and at most drugstores

Part One: Packaging

The packaging is very Nyx. They pretty much always do the solid colored case (black for the wicked lippies) and a clear middle to show the colors. It is sleek and simple, though nothing to write home about. Pretty decent packaging for the price of them I would say. Either way, 4 out 5 for packaging.

source

Part Two: Color

Okay so I am reviewing the three colors I have. I will list the colors and how they are described on the Nyx website below, so that you can see the colors I have. These were the first "crazy color" type of lipstick I ever purchased. They colors are supposed to have a metallic finish to them, and I have to say that Nyx really pulled that off. The colors are very metallic and very pigmented, which is a great thing. In this line there is only really 1 or 2 colors that are in any way wearable in every day life, but if you are looking for something fun and different, this is exactly what you need in your life. In this case though I will give the color 4 out of 5, because I wish they had more normal colors that were metallic (i.e. Red).

Colors I own:
  1.  Wrath: "Metallic copper with an orange undertone"
  2.  Betrayal: "Deep Vamp Purple with Pearl"
  3.  Cold-Hearted: "Deep Metallic Granite with Silver Shimmer"
Wrath

Betrayal

Cold Hearted

Part Three: Formula

So I knew going in that these were not marketed as a long lasting lippie. They have a very creamy formula that feels very nice on the lips, but the lasting power really is lacking. They of course don't make it through eating or drinking and I had to touch up probably every 2 to 3 hours if I didn't eat.  So in say, I have had better, and I have had worse. If a lippie had been marketing as long lasting I would be majorly pissed that it only lasted a couple of hours, but seeing how this is a creamy formula on purpose, I don't mind it so much. This is not necessarily a lipstick I would find myself reaching for on an everyday basis, or even a day I was going to wear my lipstick all day. But, if I was going out at night and wanted to look vampy and cool, I might grab one of these. So, I'll give formula a 3 out of 5.

Final Verdict:

Overall these aren't horrible lipsticks, they are fun and different than many other lipsticks on the market, but if you want something that'll last all day, I would not recommend these.

3 out of 5 Lippies.
